We are seeking experienced Functional Leads to guide and oversee the successful implementation of AI-driven solutions for our utility accounts. These roles require deep industry expertise combined with a strong understanding of AI/ML tools and technologies and their application in Utilities operations. The Functional Leads will act as the bridge between business requirements and technical execution, ensuring the AI solutions deliver measurable value across the utility’s core operations, such as distribution management, customer services, grid optimization, and so on.
Responsibilities:
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with business unit leaders, operations teams, and technical teams to gather and understand business requirements for AI/ML solutions.
- Communicate project vision, objectives, and outcomes to ensure alignment with the utility’s overall goals and regulatory requirements.
- AI/ML Requirements
- Develop and manage the AI/ML strategy roadmap aligned with the utility’s strategic goals, ensuring efficient deployment of AI technologies in key areas. Provide strategic input into AI/ML use case identification, prioritization, and business case development.
- Lead the functional design of AI/ML solutions.
- Define functional specifications, user stories, and use cases to guide the development and implementation teams.
- AI/ML Tools and Technologies Expertise
- Stay updated on emerging AI/ML tools, platforms, and technologies (such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, H2O.ai, Google AI, AWS SageMaker, Microsoft Azure AI).
- Evaluate and recommend appropriate AI/ML frameworks, tools, and algorithms for utility-specific use cases.
- Ensure effective integration of AI solutions with utility systems (SCADA, EMS, CIS, etc.) and operational data sources.
- User Management
- Facilitate training sessions and workshops to support the adoption of AI/ML solutions among utility staff and operational teams.
- Lead change management initiatives to ensure smooth integration of AI/ML systems into existing utility operations and promote a data-driven culture.
- Project Management & Delivery:
- Collaborate with project managers to define project milestones, timelines, and resource needs for AI deployment.
- Oversee the execution of AI/ML projects, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget while addressing any functional challenges that arise.
- Ensure compliance with utility industry regulations, data privacy laws, and cybersecurity standards throughout the project lifecycle.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting:
- Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the success and impact of AI initiatives on utility operations.
- Provide regular reports and insights on project progress, operational improvements, and AI/ML performance to senior leadership.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications in AI, data science, or the energy sector are a plus.
- Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in the utility sector, with at least 3 years in roles focusing on AI, data analytics, or digital transformation projects.
- Proven track record of leading functional workstreams or teams in AI/ML projects within an electric utility environment.
- Experience with AI/ML tools and platforms, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, AWS SageMaker, or similar.
- Experience with utility-specific software platforms (e.g., SCADA, EMS, CIS) is highly desirable.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of AI/ML technologies (machine learning, NLP, predictive analytics) and their practical applications in electric utilities.
- Hands-on experience with AI/ML tools and technologies for model development, training, and deployment.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into actionable business strategies.
- Familiarity with utility regulatory frameworks, data governance, and cybersecurity standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in AI-driven solutions for energy management, grid optimization, asset lifecycle management, and customer experience enhancement.
- Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2) or experience with Agile methodologies is an asset.
